Kinja'd!!!

I will testify in a court of law under oath if need be. Caught a man sleeping in his Model X while in the carpool lane.

Kinja'd!!!

Had my mom take the pic but couldn't zoom enough. But he was sleep. At first I thought he was looking down but nope. He was gone. Right after these pics tho he rubbed his neck and woke up. They need to make a sleep detector that shakes the seat or something when the car senses that someone is sleep with Autopilot engaged because this shit is dangerous.

I would have been tempted to merge in front and brake check the shit out of him.

I’ve noticed the steering assist on Distronic Plus in my E will chime and then just randomly disengage if it thinks you aren’t touching the wheel or Attention Assist is triggered etc. Maybe Tesla should do this - you’ll wake up from the impact.

This irks me sometimes, as I have hands of silk when I drive, and sometimes the steering wheel thinks it isn’t being touched.

Tempting. But you run the risk of the computer fucking up and not stopping in time.

I totally empathize with the urge, but that would just make you the bigger asshole.

I bet that is annoying. And I’m pretty sure you can’t turn it off either. But yeah Tesla needs some kind of creepy eye monitor or something because this is getting out of hand.

I’m sure it’s totally safe. Elon Musk put some funny pictures on Twitter and the internet tells me this is appropriate proof that they know what they’re doing when it comes to cars.

Or give it the ol lane crowding maneuver and see how far it will slide over before slowing down.

I have been known to be a first class asshole from time to time, when the situation dictates. I'd probably leave it at temptation though.

I think the safer alternative is to merge in front and slow way down - just not all at once - although in the far-left lane, maybe not so much.

I can just imagine, though, you get really close in front of him and he wakes up to find a car RIGHT THERE, panics , then swerves across 3 lanes and t-bones a school bus.

Yes, s elf preservation kicks in. Not worth damaging your own car to make a point.

This brand also seems to be a magnet for the kind of people who will abuse the technology. Book smart, street stupid .

On the MB, I think the steering part can be disabled, and the system dialed back to be like normal cruise control.  The automatic cruise has a few quirks as well.

IIRC, stuff like that is basically industry standard and even Teslas have similar in them. Unfortunately, those systems apparently are easily defeated using crap like fruit or devices meant to fool them.

If you stick an orange into the steering wheel of a Honda Civic the thing will basically drive itself while you doze off. *smh*

Yes early adopters that are willing to put all their faith in the tech and come after anyone that doubts it, even with obvious flaws.

I’ve never seen a brand with more of a cult mentality behind it .  When a cult has techbro attitude and money, watch out.

Yep, I have seen the MB system defeated, at least in the short term, with a bottle of pop attached to the wheel.  I wonder if the “attention assist” would eventually put a stop to it.

Those things have tons of cameras and telemetry, and typically intentional brake checking is still illegal. It would be easy to prove you did it on purpose and doubly easy to make you out as the bad guy publically.

The Acura system used to just turn off without warning. I imagine to breed a sense of mistrust in the system. Same thing though, the steering wheel sensor would beep at me telling me to keep my hands on the wheel , “we’re going in a straight line, I only need to do the bare minimum to keep the wheel from moving, what do you want from me” is what I would think.

Yeah, my car does that all the time.  I am also usually a one handed driver, which sometimes appeases the computerized beast, sometimes not.

It’s ironic, when cars are good enough to let the “driver” sleep. You won’t be able to, because of the ads and #content blasted at you through the windshield /screen.
